Where We Started

Jericho Counselling Services was established in 1996 by Joan Hyatt and Agnes Vrieze. Both having a background working in human services in the community, Joan and Agnes became workplace friends and later decided to join together to meet the need for accessible mental health services in Niagara.

With a deep Christian faith and a vision for “breaking down walls and building new foundations”, they opened the office at 36 Hiscott Street in St. Catharines. Agnes later moved on and in 2010, Joan moved the office to 264 Welland Ave. In 2018 Joan was joined by Aleena Wilton, until her retirement in 2022.

We are so grateful for the work of our founders and the vision they realized, that continues to allow us to support people here in Niagara.
